Message from the Nurse

Attention: Parents and Guardians of Sixth Graders

All pupils entering the 7th grade will need proof of a Tdap booster shot before starting school. All students must show proof of having received one dose of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) vaccine booster before attendance is allowed. An immunization record must be provided to the school showing the date your child received the vaccine and a signature or stamp of the doctor or clinic that provided the vaccine.

The Tdap vaccine/booster provides continued protection to students from three diseases: tetanus (lockjaw), diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough). All of these diseases can have very serious consequences including death.

Student may go to their health care provider or clinic or to the Public Health Department Immunization Clinic located at 820 Scenic Drive, Modesto for this immunization.

Please bring the record to Lucille Whitehead as soon as this booster has been received.

LWIS Construction Begins October 23rd

Starting Monday, Oct. 23rd construction will begin on the new LWIS Admin Bldg.  The back parking lot and student drop-off area at LWIS will be closed to traffic during construction.  LWIS students will be dropped off and picked up at the Moon School parking lot.  To assist parents, all WUSD Staff will be parking off campus to allow parents access to district parking lots during the construction project. All Moon parking spots will be reserved for WUSD parents.    Additionally, the back service gate near the LWIS Café will now become the school entrance/parking area for parents who need to come on campus.  Please pass the word.

Our deepest sympathies to the victims and families affected by the recent tragedy in Las Vegas.  We are saddened by your loss. Please know that our hearts go out to you in your time of sorrow.

Solar Eclipse Event

Today Lucille Whitehead School shared the rare experience of the Solar Eclipse.  Teachers highlighted this event in classrooms prior to the actual LWIS Solar Eclipse Day.   This morning, the moon began blocking part of the sun at 9:03 am.  Staff and students gathered outside in groups between 9:45 a.m. and 10:20 a.m. to catch sight of this rare event.  Through the use of solar safety glasses, everyone at Lucille Whitehead was able to view the phases of the solar eclipse as the moon traveled between earth and the sun.  At approximately 10:17 am the moon blocked 75% of the sun – the greatest coverage here in Waterford.   There were lots of AHHHs” and “COOL!” heard around the LWIS Campus Staff who helped to make this event a safe, memorable time for our students.

Good news, Waterford USD, has installed a gate at LWIS, at the back corner of the campus, near your home. As a result, your elementary and intermediate children will no longer have to wait for the bus or have to ride the bus for an extended length of time. Students will be able to safely walk to school each morning and home in the afternoon. Students attending Waterford Junior High have a new stop at Moon School in the morning at 7:30 am and will be returned to Lucille Whitehead in the afternoon at 2:50 pm. The gate will open at 7:15 am to 7:30 am, and will be staffed by a yard duty. The gate will open again at 2:47 pm, 12:30 on early release days. Students from Moon School, will be escorted to the gate each afternoon.

We will no longer have a Bus stop at 11819 Yosemite at the trailer park.

Hola Familias W.U.S.D,

In the past, classroom assignments were posted on-site so students could find out prior to school starting what class they would be in.  This year will be different.  On Thursday, August 3,  a 'Welcome Back' letter will be mailed which contains students' classroom assignments and other pertinent information.

Please contact our office if you have made any changes to your telephone or address information to ensure that you receive this letter.  Staff will be on hand the first day of school to help students find their classrooms.

We look forward to seeing each of you!
